Zest & Light: The Lime is an original hyper-realistic still life oil painting inspired by the dramatic use of light and shadow found in the chiaroscuro technique of the Old Masters.
For this painting, Daniela personally sliced the lime and studied it under carefully directed light before beginning to paint. The artist was particularly fascinated by the way the light travelled through the fruit, illuminating its translucent flesh and revealing subtle variations of green and yellow that might otherwise go unnoticed.
Set against a dark background, the lime appears almost luminous. The contrast between light and shadow gives the fruit depth and presence, while the close observation of its segments, glistening flesh and textured skin transforms an everyday object into something worthy of a second look.
Although painted in a contemporary hyper-realistic style, Zest & Light: The Lime draws inspiration from the tradition of chiaroscuro still life painting. The simplicity of the composition allows light itself to become an essential part of the subject.
The painting comes ready to hang in a modern minimalist off-white frame. Its clean, neutral finish complements the strong contrast of the artwork without competing with it, allowing the illuminated lime to remain the focus. The understated frame also makes the piece easy to incorporate into a wide variety of interior styles.
